If its presentation at the ‘El Villicum’ racetrack this weekend will already be a historic date for the Zonal Cuyano, the same will happen practically on a personal level in the 31 San Juan drivers who signed up to be part of any of the 4 categories that make up the most important pavement sports car show in the region.
It will be special, for different reasons, for all the pilots their presentation in the albardonero circuit this 3rd date of the season -which is organized by APAC-, even for those who have been participating for decades. For example, Fabrizio Benedetti took it as a gift because yesterday Friday was his birthday: “At 48 I made my debut”, the current leader of Class 2 said with a smile, who added: “I am very happy, it was possible to have a race that a short time ago it seemed unattainable. The truth is that the APAC boys got into it ”. Like a great gala party in the San Juan area, Fabrizio said that he will run with some boots that Facundo Della Motta lent him, at the risk of becoming ‘lucky charms’.
For the protagonists, the only thing to regret in the preview is that there will be no public presence, which in some cases prevents them from receiving the support of more close people on the racetrack. The lament is more visible in relatives of several ‘pigeons’ who are protagonists in different categories of karting and who will now compete for the first time in a car with a roof. One of them is the ‘Colo’ Juan Cruz Roca, who at the age of 16 participates this season in the Rotax Cup, in Buenos Aires, and with his family is betting on this date to start venturing into sports tourism careers. “It will add experience and with that the balance is already positive. Like Juan Cruz, there are many newcomers in the category, so he will go to a draw for the last places on the starting grid ”, said his father, Magin Roca. The category is the Fiat Promotional Tourism, with 45 registrants.
There is also the case of leading drivers in the rally, who are now going to make the comparison of a race in paviemnto. Among them is Gastón Pastén, who last year became champion in one of the most important categories of the Argentine Rally. “I am more anxious than in the first race of a rally. I wanted to know the sensations of running on a racetrack. The truth is that this one in particular is awesome. If you compare it with football, it should be the same as presenting yourself at the Monumental or La Bombonera ”, indicated Pastén, who has also ‘scored’ ever to appear at El Zonda-Copello.
Mauricio Figueroa, president of APAC, led the list of those thanking the provincial government and the Sports Secretariat because the competition is held in the context of a pandemic, with all the necessary health requirements. Benedetti added: “Besides that those of us who are passionate about doing this are going to take great pleasure in racing here, those who make a living from this will be able to get paid. Not a few workshops were left without work ”.
